What is a saddleback Border Collie?
The saddleback pattern looks a bit like the normal tri color, but it is spread further. The coat as a puppy looks more the base color they are(black and white, chocolate and white, merle and white, etc.) with a little tan on the face and under the tail, but progresses to cover more of the base color

This puppy is Lexus, a black saddleback. Her father is Rojo, a chocolate saddleback, however its easier to notice the saddleback marking on a dark base color.
The pictures on the left are 1 day old and you can see the tan markings on her face clearly. At this point there is very little distinction between a black tri color and a saddleback. |
Rojo is a chocolate saddleback, however it is harder to distinguish his "saddle" because its two different tones of tan.
Below is one of Rojo's chocolate saddleback puppies. It will show Darwin's color progress until adulthood
